چکیده

It is intuitive in many situations to view an interactive computer system as an agent with which the user collaborates. From this point of view, such systems will be easier to use (especially for novices) if they obey the same rules and conventions of collaborative discourse that people are familiar with from everyday experience. This note describes an experiment in progress that begins to systematically explore the potential contribution of discourse theory to the design of interactive systems. (See [2] for more information.) The long-term goal of this research is to develop a general-purpose collection of subroutines, data structures, and speci cations (i.e., a toolkit) that application programmers can easily use to add collaborative capabilities such as the following to any interactive application:

The Effect of Interaction on Lexical Acquisition

This research showed that appropriate input and suitable contexts for interaction among students can lead to successful  second language acquisition (SLA). This study based on Swain's (2005) notion of collaborative dialogue, aimed to study whether EFL learners participating in negotiation of meaning based tasks collaborate with each other and, if so, to investigate the role of this behavior in ...

Knowledge Negotiation in Asynchronous Learning Networks

The negotiation of what is to count as mutually acceptable collaborative knowledge is difficult to conduct when participants cannot interact face-to-face. We review certain related work on negotiation support and develop a concept of “knowledge negotiation” that is appropriate for collaborative learning in ALNs used in school classrooms. This concept is situated within the framework of collabor...

A study of argumentation-based negotiation in collaborative design

Engineering of complex systems often involves teamwork. The members of an engineering team must work together to identify design requirements, explore design spaces, generate design alternatives, and make both interactive and joint design decisions. Because of the latency of information and the disciplinary differences, it is often a difficult process for the members of a team to reach agreemen...
